Where I come from the weather doesn't change that quick...oh and it only rains this hard maybe twice a year...

My response to the man on the bus when I walked on soaking wet. So its been a bit. This week was good. Saturday I went on a white house tour which was fun just the old historic part which is lame in respects to what really goes on there but is still cool to see, but i did see the painting of Kennedy which is used in the opening clips of American President my fav movie. Then wandered a bit, around the mall and through the Air and Space museum. Didn't find what I was looking for but it was still good. We had a few people over so I got to meet some more people which is always good. Work this week was good. I didn't give a single tour which in ways is sad. Wrote a summary of all the ear marks we made for appropriations, a new constitent letter on Veterans Affairs, and spent alot of time running two and from the committee hearing this week. Along with all the old stuff. Today was nice, random stuff in the morning and then had a lunch with Redland's students and Alums. It was nice to get a taste of home. Then got half the day off so I decided to just walk home. Problem is it may seem just like a nice and normal hot and humid day but not thats not all. I made it about 2/3 of the way home when it starts sprinkeling and I go oh this is nice its hot out. Then it picks up a bit so I pull out my umbrella (which I now carry EVERYWHERE). Then about 2 minutes after this all started it is pouring, the sky falling down and blowing from all angles. Luckly I was only about 100 yards from a gas station where there is a bus stop. So that leads me to my title. I sit down on the bus after waiting about 5 minutes and I hop on and the guy who I sit across from just comments on my wetness. Its not my fault that I expect warning for rain and nothing you can't protect yourself from with an umbrella. So I get home watch the last two episodes of the Buffy/Angel story which is extremely depressing still (oh and that Love Song is NOT ON DVD, and even if i had my VHS copy I do not have a VCR). Then I decided to go shopping. Needed a few things. It is amazing to have headphones that work properly. I would say it was a successful trip even though I did not find the skirt I want but I did get tips that may help. I am supposed to have tomorrow off but that may change since I want to take some time off next week for a much more convenient trip to Jersey. It will all work it self out though...just planning on waking up early either way...

Osamba, Obama and Yo Mama

Sliding into the Senate...

It has been an exciting while since I last wrote on friday... Well friday night was fun, went out with people from the house and met some GW students. Then saturday found my way up to Jersey. Some slight detours in how I got there but it all worked out. Wasn't the best situation but it was amazing to see all the family. It had been so long. It really is great up there. The Shore isn't the beach but it is still great, but all the family tops it off. From the cousins to the aunts and uncles to the grandparents... oh and of course my dad on father's day. That was mostly what it was. Just spending time with people, although I am hoping to make it up later in the summer to see more of them. Then on monday took a long trip back. It was worth it but it would have been nice to have a weekend. Yesterday was a basic day, but today a little after 5 once we had finished things up we headed over to the senate. We saw five different presidental candidates, Obama, Kennedy, Liberman, Kerry and ohhh Hilary who literally slid her way into the senate by practically falling and yelping...relatively amusing (since she wasn't hurt) and it wasn't hard to notice with the yell and yellow jacket. There was also Boxer and Feinstein as well as many more. It is amazing being able to run after work and see all these people and what all they are doing. That is basically the excitement. It was a great weekend which should lead to another trip up there as well as a trip to New York...

I thought ceilings only leak in the movies???

This week has been going well. We had a huge storm wednesday night. It would have been fine other than the fact that I was on my way home when it happened. Only had to run a block but by the time I was at the door it looked like I jumped in the pool. Then I walked upstairs and the ceiling was raining... Hopefully it has been fixed but honestly I do not know. Thursday I gave my first tour of the capital and i thought I was giving it to second graders but it turned out to be eighth graders. It was lots and lots of fun. I really do miss working with kids. At somepoint I am going to have to find a balance between the poltics side I want to do and my love for working with kids. That tour was done with a different office so I got to meet more interns which is always fun. Then friday I had another tour...this time with a group of adults from the desert...one needed a wheel chair so i had to find a new way around the capital. It was pretty cool we got to see the floor and not from the gallery but right outside the floor. It was pretty cool. Other than that just random projects at work. Learning more and more about the desert. Last night was fun...went out with some of the people in the house. Met some gw students. Then wandered around georgetown. Other than that nothing too excited. Lots of fun. Heading out to the Jersey Shore for the weekend. Even though its not the best circumstances it should be good. Im looking forward to seeing my family. Thats about all for now. Just enjoying life...

If you recycle then you arent a true republican...

So this weekend was lots of fun. Started with us crazy california kids getting stuck in the middle of a thunderstorm orA monsoone or something. Which was tons of fun other than the unenjoyable wet ride back on the metro and bus. Other than that just hung out with some of my house mates. Went to tombs a pub in town for dinner. They even made my tuna melt on an english muffin just like I do at home. Then wandered around Georgetown looking to see if anything was going on. Which instead lead to us back at home having late night conversations. Sunday was a nice lazy day. Went to the pool, then it started to rain, then laid around, went to church, and nothing much other than that. It was a nice weekend but too short. I have had three day weekends all year and I don't know if these two days are acceptable. Oh well. I get a day off this week to explore which should be fun. I want to see if I can maybe get into the supreme court, since that would be amazing. Might get to see Bush when he comes to speak at the senate tomorrow. Hoping but not sure. Other then making fun of pages and being called a democrat since I think the giant post-its are a waste of paper nothing new to report...

Mattress Pads, Fans, and Hot Water

Well two of those things I now have but one of them I don't. And which one do I not have, well the most important one. I have been without hot water for 7 DAYS... Which basically means that the world is falling apart. Cold water is no fun at all. But on better news I can actually sleep now since I have bought a fan and a mattress pad. I blame my parents for the fan part but my bed is made out of cardboard really!! So now that I have a mattress pad my life is complete. Other then those two lovely and one devistating thing life has pretty much become normal. Taking the metro to work everyday. I have gotten it down to about thirty minutes from when the bus picks me up, then sit around the office all day answering phones, folding letters, doing tours, running errands, and what not else. This weekend should be nice it will be pretty warm out and the pool is not too far. I am hoping to make it to a few museums too but we will see how that goes. Well that is life for now...

So lets just say that I LOVE D.C. Its tons of fun out here. Defintaly prettier than inland California. Really the only bad thing is the humidity and yesterday it was not even that bad. Well I started work on Monday and its mostly a lot of grunt work. File letters, doing the mail and answering the phones, and although that sounds like no fun its a blast. There are two other interns on who goes to UCS and one goes to BC. Ive gotten to explore a bit. Went on my first tour yesterday and soon I will be giving them. Monday after work Chris and I (one of the other interns) walked the entire Mall. Yes that is over 2 miles one way. But it was fun. Its amazing that work is right off of that and everything that is there. Yesterday after work we (the interns) went to a Nationals v. Pirates game. It wasn't very impressive or anything but it was tons of fun. Got to know the other interns better as well as some of the obnoxious fans around us. Now its my third day of work and everything is going great. Other than that not much else going on...

Well Im here...

So I am finally here and moved in to my house in D.C. Its a bit odd but really nice too. The house is really cute, a nice little townhouse right in georgetown. Only problem is Im back to a twin size bed which is not very comfortable. Otherwise the house is great. This humidity is going to take awhile for me to get used to but it is not horrible yet, just close. Its nice to be here but I already miss home, well more so the people but thats okay. I am sure there will be more of an update once I start work but for now that is about all.
